While some people don't like to invest in so called "sin stocks," owning shares of tobacco companies could potentially fill an important gap in your investment portfolio. Tobacco stocks are characterized by low P/E ratios and high dividend yields. As a result, many investors seeking a steady stream of income find them to be attractive, especially when interest rates are low. Investing in tobacco stocks is inherently risky, because the companies are exposed to near constant litigation from former smokers seeking damages. While tobacco companies have generally been successful at fighting this litigation, it is a constant source of hesitation for the industry. Additionally, there is uncertainty associated with the future of tobacco companies now that they are regulated by the FDA. At this point, it is unclear if tobacco companies will be forced to further curtail their marketing practices, change ingredients, or drop brand segments all together.

The domestic tobacco industry is mature, and cigarette volumes are declining in the United States and Western Europe. Draconian taxes and smoking bans have made cigarettes less accessible. Marketing restrictions imposed in the 1990's have severely restricted the ability of tobacco companies to reach new customers. Additionally, the public's perception of smoking is more negative than at any time in the past. However, cigarettes are very addictive, and smoking is an extremely difficult habit to quit. Add the fact that smokers tend to be extremely brand loyal, and it becomes clear why this slowly declining industry is still very profitable.

Internationally, cigarette volumes are increasing. Most developing nations lack strict smoking bans like those seen in much of the United States and Western Europe. Smoking in bars, restaurants, and the workplace is still legal in many parts of the world. Combine this with low taxation and it's easy to see why smoking cigarettes is still extremely popular in many countries around the globe. Smoking is also perceived differently in many developing nations than it is in the United States. In America, a smoking habit is often seen as a sign of weakness, while smoking a Marlboro or Camel in a developing nation is frequently considered a status symbol or an affordable luxury.

The long term future for both domestic and international tobacco companies is inherently negative. Increasingly, governments are gaining the political will to pass strict laws taxing and regulating tobacco products. However, as we have seen in the United States and Western Europe, the industry is much more resilient than anyone could have previously thought. Although cigarette volumes are slowly declining by a few percentage points each year in developed markets, the business is still extremely profitable. While tobacco companies know that manufacturing cigarettes may not always be a viable business, the day of reckoning will not come for a very long while.

In the meantime, tobacco companies are increasingly diversifying by developing new tobacco products seen as less harmful than cigarettes. These products, mainly variations of smokeless tobacco, can be used discreetly in places where smoking cigarettes is forbidden. Smokeless products provide the user with a nicotine fix while not upsetting bystanders or impacting the health of others. Analysts estimate that the smokeless tobacco segment will grow by 5% in 2010.

All of the large tobacco companies are publicly traded, meaning that anyone can easily buy their stock through a stockbroker. Domestic companies include Altria Group (MO) Reynolds American (RAI) Lorillard (LO) and Vector Group (VGR). Tobacco companies with international exposure include British American Tobacco ADR (BTI) Imperial Tobacco Group ADR (ITYBY) and Philip Morris International (PM).

RAMP by PINOY PHOTOGRAPHER

Ramp Riders is a skate park located at 2324 Salena Street, in St. Louis, Missouri. It's considered by most to be the best skate park in Missouri; but does it really live up to the hype?

I'll admit, I once judged a book by its cover. It's hard not to when the cover is a warehouse in a seemingly shady neighborhood that has seen better days. I'm glad I decided to look past the exterior and give the place a chance. After walking up a flight of stairs and opening the doors to the indoor skate park, I was pleasantly surprised.

The floor is smooth concrete and the place is littered with wooden ramps, ranging from vert, kickers, rails, and curbs. Ramp Riders has it everything you'd expect from a great skatepark and then some. More advanced features include a moveable street course, 4' quarter pipe, and a curved wallride. Needless to say, Ramp Riders caters to everyone, regardless of age or skill level.

Due to the dangerous nature of the extreme sports, everyone looking to participate will be required to sign a waver before they are allowed to step foot on the ramps. This is understandable, and it's nice to see that Ramp Riders is run my people that actually know how to do things by the book. I've been to several skate parks that weren't this legit.

Ramp Riders offers training courses for kids from the ages 2-10 for the low price of $10. The program is called Wee Man Beginner Session. Unfortunately, the actual Wee Man doesn't make an appearance. But the overall experience of these courses should more than make up for it. A team member will always be present to supervise and help make everyone comfortable with skateboards, bikes, and the ramps. Whoever accompanies the child is welcome to participate as well - for free. It doesn't stop there, though. Besides the hands on learning experience, your $10 will also net you a Capri Sun and pizza. These beginner sessions take place every Sunday from 10AM-Noon. If you stay after the beginner session, you're allowed to partake in the open session for free. An open session is exactly what it sounds like - kids are allowed to put their training to the test in an open environment without the handholding of the beginner session. The first open session is from Noon-4PM.

If you're just starting out and a little shy, Ramp Riders also offers private lessons. Their team members are boasted as the "best in St. Louis," happen to be friendly and helpful, and are always available for one on one lessons - granted you schedule in up to one week in advance. The prices are a little steep: $35.00 for one hour or $60.00 for two hours. You're also required to supply a nonrefundable $20.00 deposit to reserve a lesson.

They offer some cool special incentives to keep coming back. You get to ride or skate for free on your birthday. All you have to do is supply a valid form of identification. Every Thursday girls can get in on the action for free. Bible Banger Sunday allows you to bring in your church's Sunday bulletin to get one session for $5. If you're old and desperately trying to hold on to your youth, every third Monday of every month BMX riders get to ride for free.

There's a skate and bike shop onsite, stocked with BMX, skateboard, and inline skating products. If they don't have it in stock, they can order it within 5-7 days at no shipping cost to you. All bikes are assembled by qualified mechanics that ride BMX themselves. You'll have the ability to ride the bike in the park before you buy it. With the purchase of a complete bike you receive five free sessions, 1-year adjustments, and free additional part installations. They also offer gift certificates, which can be used on merchandise or sessions, and layaway.

Ramp Riders is the go-to skate park in Missouri. The price of admission is only $10. I have yet to encounter one that beats the overall experience and community at Ramp Riders.

What exactly is the Stock Market? It is an arranged method exactly where anybody in addition to every person can easily sometimes purchase or perhaps advertise their shares or perhaps stocks

Just over 20 years ago, mathematician Jim Miekka created The Hindenburg Omen. Nothing to do with the big German airship that burst into flames in the 30s, The Hindenburg Omen is supposed to be a predictor of a stock market crash. It basically says that during a normal period (and there's not much agreement on what period in the NYSE is ever classified as truly 'normal') a large number of stocks may set new annual highs or new annual lows, but at different times. If however this happens at the same time, then this is a good indicator the stock market is going to crash. Thus The Hindenburg Omen.

But, is The Hindenburg Omen something you should be paying attention to? Does it really accurately predict a stock market crash? No, it doesn't. And here's why.

Prediction is Only 24% Accurate - Since The Hindenburg Omen was first triggered back in 1987, it has only been correct 24% of the time. Yes, you read that correctly - less than 1 in 4. Now, as someone who follows the stock market relatively closely, I can give you a prediction the stock market will crash this month with a 50% accuracy rate. Either it will, or it won't. So a predictor like The Hindenburg Omen that's only been correct a handful of times, even though market conditions have triggered it many times, is worse than useless. Any 'expert' on CNN or MSNBC has a better success rate than that.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy - Of course, every time The Hindenburg Omen is triggered, the market falls. Why? Because investors, who are known to panic and sell quickly at even the smell of bad news, panic and sell quickly. That drags the stock market down until investors who are smarter, buy back in at a lower price, thus almost guaranteeing themselves a hefty profit. With The Hindenburg Omen being triggered four times this month, the stock market has fallen. Will it go back up? Of course it will. It always does.

Recent Hindenburg Omen Triggers - Market conditions have triggered The Hindenburg Omen four times in the last three weeks. Beginning on August 12th, then again on the 20th, 24th and 25th of August. Yet, so far, no stock market crash. Sure, the stock market went down, then went right back up, to go down again and on and on. That's a normal stock market and nothing indicates, as yet, it's anything different that would cause a stock market crash.

The Omen That Cried Wolf - The more times The Hindenburg Omen is triggered, the less effective it is. It's now been triggered four times this month but there's still no stock market crash in sight. The more it does this, the less investors are going to listen, the more they'll buy in and the more useless The Hindenburg Omen is. Finally having the opposite effect of the real 'boy who cried wolf story', as stock market crashes not happening will bolster investor confidence and ensure that they don't.

Polls Show Most Still Invest in Stock Market - Even after The Hindenburg Omen was triggered four times this month, polls still show most investors think it's better putting your money in stocks than in bonds. And many said they weren't going to let something like The Hindenburg Omen stop them from investing in the stock market. Now they are the smart investors.

We have all seen the movies where about 1000 guys in suits are screaming "SELL, SELL, SELL" this is how we picture the stock exchange. Well before you go to Wall Street and start screaming and selling your stocks, there is an interactive web based stock market game you can play to gain experience on stock trading. The game is called Virtual Stock Exchange and you can find it on the web at (http://vse.marketwatch.com).

To play Virtual Stock Exchange you must first register on the site, which is quick and easy. Once registered you can choose many options of game play, you can just simply join a game that is already in progress or you can create your own or wait to be invited to a specific game. With all the options it gives the game some flare, you can join with your friends and play a private game and see who has the best trading skills. You also can join a generic game and see if you can beat all the other online players, some of them are pretty crafty and do quite well.

When you start a game depending on which option you choose you are given some start up capitol by Virtual Stock Exchange. You then need to start buying stocks, it's a pretty straight forward process, you type in the stock symbol (or the name of the company you want) and then click on GO. It then brings you to the buying process which has many options that I don't really know much about, Google better watch out because I will find out soon enough what the difference in the pricing types are (Market, Limit, and Stop). Once you purchase your stock then you just have to wait and see if your stock goes up or down. Buy low and sell high is how I have been working my game but I am in fifth place out of ten friends so I don't know if my strategy is working so well.

Other than buying and selling stocks on the game there is a portfolio interface that allows you to see all the stocks you own, what you bought them for, what their current value is, how much you have of the stock, how much gain or loss you have made on the stock, and the equity you are invested in each stock. This game is very addicting I want to beat my friends and it gives me the idea maybe one day I can take on Wall Street, well maybe not since I don't have (10,000,000) in start up capitol the game gives you.

The Virtual Stock Exchange also gives you a research option where you can learn more information about how to trade. It gives you a load of information about different types of trading, what the best trade methods are, what all the extra things are that go with trading like the commission. It is just a fun place to learn about trading stocks.

Overall the web interface is good and easy to use, trading does take some time, and trades don't post for about 15 minutes. Not sure if that is how the real stock market works or not, but that seems like a long time to wait, the stocks continue to fluctuate as you wait for the trade to be made. I have a lot of fun playing this game with my friends and family, it's a good way to kill some time or just to take a break every now and then to see how you are making out in the game. It's very realistic and hard, I have been playing for a month now and have seen minimal gains normally staying just above even. I am not sure how the pros do it but even with my 10 million dollars I have just made a few thousand dollars.

I think this would be a great game for college students studying to be stock brokers. It is tied into the actual market and shows potential real life gains and losses, it would be a good way to get them some experience at no cost. I am sure there are some falsities about the game but if you just want to have some fun and try your luck at the stock market this is the way to do it without risking your life savings.

I used to play an old text based game called Inside Trader on the old Apple II computer and I loved it so I started to find more realistic updated version of the game and The Virtual Stock Exchange seems to be the best. It is very fun and gives you plenty of good information to try out and see if you have the potential to make some money on the market.

Go ahead give The Virtual Stock Market a chance, who knows maybe you will learn enough to go for the real thing. When you are a millionaire remember who got you into the Virtual Stock Exchange!

stock market games by b.tzachi

As I stare at the wall of water from tropical storm Debbie my vacation plans are in ruin so I turn my focus to the stock markets. I will be brief so not to lose you. Will the US markets go up, down or sideways today I ask myself after reading the financial publications from various sources. Since I am passionate about the stock market I asked myself how can I take advantage of the daily price movements and that's when it hit me, if numbers are involved then one should be able to accurately calculate and predict entry and exits points. Certainly I am not the only one who believes this phenomenon hence the myriad of websites, books, blogs, and infomercials that claim to have the winning strategy. Perhaps some may work however I wonder what caused those folks to develop a stock trading tool to help others win at stock trading. Are they just being nice.

Well I cannot speak for "those folks" and I'm no Einstein but since numbers have a predictive quality there must be a formula that allows stock traders a precognitive view of future trends. Speaking of Einstein, didn't he use numbers to figure out far more complicated issues impacting mankind? Doesn't every invention have some mathematical calculation involved? Since the answers to the questions are a resounding yes then I believe I am on the right track.

This brings me back to the stock markets and beliefs by most that the stocks movements are random in nature and cannot be predicted; I say malarkey, if numbers are involved then calculations can definitely determine ones success. Does such things exist at the retail level, may be not yet but with the advancement in computing power and its usage by humans from the infant stages it is just a matter of time before someone creates a winning formula. In fact it might already exist and if so would it be published so that the market can adjust to its tendencies I ask out loud. Then another question pops into my head, how can a human beat a computer at numbers calculations. My answer is since humans developed the computer and wrote code, then humans can also write the code to counter act algorithmic actions. I will live it at that for now.

McKaskey Creek Campground on Lake Allatoona is one of nine campgrounds in Georgia run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Allatoona Lake is only 30 miles from Atlanta, offering a quiet peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city life. The lake draws over 13 million visitors every year in the form of campers, hunters, fishermen, swimmers and hikers. There are never a lack of jet skis, pontoon boats, house boats, and speedboats that dot the lake from sunrise to each gorgeous sunset on the lake. Allatoona Lake is the oldest multipurpose project from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' South Atlantic Division. The dam was completed and operable in January 1950 and designed at a cost of $31.5 million. It is located on the Etowah River, one of the tributaries of the Coosa River.

A pretty and nicely done campground, it has pea gravel spaces with BBQ/Fire pits and a picnic table. They have an asphalt pull thru or back-in camper area depending on where your lot is located. The water front lots here are nice and some have a raised area that overlooks the lake. Plus, the campsites aren't cramped and they still give you a bit of privacy. They have a boat ramp, beach, one parking area, a play area, a shower house, and a dump station. They have both primitive and full hookup stations for maximum convenience.

McKaskey Creek Campground allows 3 cars per campsite and a maximum of 6 visitors in addition to the registered camping party. Even with this generous allowance, the campsites never seemed crowded or closed in. It was a peaceful night due to the noise ordinance of quiet hours between 10pm and 6 am. They will lock up the gates at 10:30pm until they "re-open" the campsite at 7am. Your checkout time at this campground is a very reasonable 3pm.
